Jonathan J. Felix has joined the judging panel for the Design Magazine Awards 2026. As a faculty member in the School of Communication and Design at RMIT University Vietnam, Jonathan brings both studio practice and academic scholarship to the panel.
He worked previously as an in-house designer, freelancer, and consultant, and co-designed a Media and Design diploma programme jointly approved by Pearson UK and the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago. He now teaches interdisciplinary courses in digital communication and Asian cultural studies in Ho Chi Minh City. His research covers the Sociology of Education, Digital Cultures, and Alternative Media. He is a Visiting Fellow of the International and Comparative Education Research Group at Universiti Brunei Darussalam and holds an Associate Fellowship with Advance HE.
One of his most recent research collaborations is the NEW Futures learning platform, an AI-based learning tool to help Vietnamese students problem-solve real-world scenarios concerning the local and global creative industries. This project was led by David Rousell and other RMIT University academics, partially aimed at addressing the distance between design education and graduate employment.
On what he looks for in submitted work: “A balance between idea and execution, theory and practice, thought and action.”
The Design Magazine Awards 2026 are free to enter, blind-judged, and open worldwide. Early entry closes 31 July 2026.
